A recent survey concluded that in 2023 one third of American pastors have recently considered quitting vocational ministry. One in four are nearing retirement. As for the rest, phrases such as “burned out” and “at a breaking point” are all too often used.
Pastoral ministry is beautiful and at times excruciating. It is filled with moments of laughter and happiness, and moments (or even seasons) of deep and dark grief and lament.
