Baptist Progress
Letter from the PresidentDear BMA of Texas Family,
“One Heart” is our theme this year. As I prayed on this theme, I could not help but think about the division we see in our country and in the world today, and how Satan uses it to tear apart relationships, families and even our churches. Yet, I was also reminded of how blessed we are. Each church, each ministry, each department, every director and staff member—together we have formed a strong, united ministry for many years. read more... |

Big Changes Continue at Baptist ProgressBy CHRIS DRIVER
Baptist Progress Editor After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to resign as the editor/team lead of the Baptist Progress. It was not an easy decision. As I said when I was asked to take over the position during the transition, I love the BMA of Texas. I love our churches. I love our people. I love what God is doing in and through us across the state of Texas. And I love telling those stories. So, to step down from a position that has let me express my love for the BMA of Texas is a difficult thing.

2025 Annual Missions ReportBy HEITH MITCHELL
BMA Texas Missions Director In 1901, the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas was formed as a cooperative association made up of Texas Baptist churches. Immediately and naturally, this new organization set out on aggressively doing missions together. This was not debated. For these churches, the Great Commission work was as natural as breathing. There was no discussion of whether they should engage in missions together. They just aggressively set out to do it. Within a few years there were mission efforts across Texas, Mexico and in Portugal. There were Texas projects among English, Tejanos, Germans, Greeks and Czechoslovakians. BMA Missions was aggressively sharing the gospel among the settlements of west Texas. Many, maybe most, Baptist settlement churches in the west were BMA assisted.

2025 Jacksonville College ReportBy DAVID ERICKSON
Jacksonville College President What began in 1899 as a dream to create a “Missionary Baptist College” led to generation after generation of Jacksonville College graduates carrying the torch of faith across Texas, throughout America and to the far corners of our world. Today, our mission burns brighter than ever: a Jesus-centered community of higher education preparing students for lives of learning, work and service. As we move forward into the future, we also take inspiration from the past.

2025 Annual Loan Association ReportBy: JERRY FULTON
BMLA Director In 1951, the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas met in Lubbock. At that meeting, a motion was made that the moderator appoint a five-man committee to present a plan to establish a loan fund for the purpose of aiding new churches in erecting buildings for worship and that the Mission Board be given the authority to act upon this plan at its next meeting. During the same meeting, a suggested draft of a constitution and bylaws of the Loan Association of the Baptist Missionary Association was presented to the messengers present. The constitution was adopted by the Association the next year when it met in Dallas.

More Bang for Your BuckBy: CINDY ALLEN
WMA of Texas President Many thanks to everyone who supports WMA projects. WMA seems to be comprised of donors. Locally, the ladies support many projects and are busy helping several different groups. The district supports projects monetarily and through in-kind donations, as many others do. The current Texas project is the Texas Baptist Home for Children and the National project is Just the Crumbs, but, when you give to the state and/or national project, your money actually helps in lots of ways.

United Thanksgiving Offering Honors Mrs. Sandra CrankBy: EMILY SIMPSON
Baptist Progress Writer “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies” (Proverbs 31:10).
When the mother of King Lemuel penned the famous question “who can find a virtuous woman?” she most likely thought of the woman her son would marry someday. Her charge went on to describe this “virtuous woman” with a list of ordinary yet godly characteristics. Her husband trusts her, she is not idle, she is wise and caring, she builds a productive home, she fears the Lord. What might seem like a checklist is made a lot clearer when looking at the forest through the trees. What is the message this mother stressed to her son? The fact that this kind of woman, a virtuous woman, is a partner worthy of a king, “for her price is far above rubies.” read more... |
