The Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary announced during the 2026 national meeting of the Baptist Missionary Association of America that the institution plans to create an academic chair in honor of long-time missionary, pastor and BMA Seminary graduate Aubrey “Buddy” Johnson.

Institutions of higher education often use such “chairs” to provide perpetual financial income for a distinguished faculty member’s salary. This is done by using interest generated from an endowment, established at the requests of financial donors, to pay the chair’s salary.

Creation of the Buddy Johnson Chair of Great Commission Studies will bless BMA Seminary by providing a consistent and dependable source of income to meet the financial needs of maintaining a professor to serve in the field of Christian Ministry.

Johnson’s ministry philosophy has focused upon 2 Timothy 2:2, committing what he had learned to faithful men who can then teach others. That biblical philosophy is at the forefront of BMA Seminary’s focus to equip faithful believers in fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciple makers.

This will be one of the largest fund-raising efforts ever performed by BMA Seminary. Please be prayerful as we hope the Lord will lead donors to provide the estimated $2,000,000 needed to establish the chair. If you or someone you know may be interested in assisting with this project, please feel free to contact President Philip Attebery or Dr. Charley Holmes, Director of Development, at 800-259-5673.
