“My desire is to help girls become bold to share their faith and spread the gospel,” expressed Cheyenne Tucker when discussing future plans of launching a Girls Missionary Auxiliary (GMA) program at her church. GMAs left a lasting impact on Cheyenne, who attended the program while in elementary school. She completed GMAs during her senior year in high school. After high school, Cheyenne joined the advisory board for the GMAs of Texas.

Through GMAs, Cheyenne gained valuable friendships that have lasted a lifetime. She desires to see other young ladies form these long-lasting friendships by inviting girls from her community to attend a Girls Discipleship Retreat this summer. Her goal is to pique their interest in possibly joining GMAs.

Cheyenne envisions the girls who attend her church will invite their friends from the local school to journey with them into the wilderness, which is this year’s retreat theme. The annual retreat will be held at Daniel Springs Camp in Gary.

Do you know how GMA came into existence?
The GMA organization was created by the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary (WMA). These women had a strong desire to teach the younger generation about Christ and to help them grow in their spiritual walk with Jesus. The GMAs are supported by the Baptist Missionary Association (BMA) in churches throughout the U.S. and in several foreign countries. GMAs is a discipleship program for girls in the fourth through 12th grades.

The GMA motto stems from 2 Corinthians 5:20, which states, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.” This kind of ambassador is a representative of Jesus Christ who boldly proclaims His name all throughout the world. As ambassadors of Christ, the girls learn how to work in groups and participate in mission work. Most importantly, the gospel is spread throughout GMAs as young girls are taught the plan of salvation. They learn to gain confidence not only in themselves but also in the good work Christ is completing in their lives.

In addition to missions, students participate in service projects and work to complete various Bible study requirements. They grow in their spiritual walk as they deepen their relationship with Christ.

Cheyenne is a living testimony of how a life can be transformed through the GMA program. She says, “[GMAs] made me who I am today as a Christian woman.” Her heart’s desire is to see more young ladies attain this same spiritual maturity through GMAs.

Cheyenne says, “Girls need to learn what it means to be a Christian woman while learning about the church and its importance.”

How can you support the GMA program?
Pray for souls to be saved and lives to be changed. Also, pray for Cheyenne Tucker as she launches a GMA program in Kilgore, Texas. If you are interested in creating a GMA group within your church, fill out the contact form at www.texasgma.org. Printable lessons are available at www.nationalgma.org/#lessons, which teach the importance of discipleship. The Girls Discipleship Retreat will be held at Daniel Springs Camp on June 9-12. For more information, visit www.nationalgma.org/retreat. Most importantly, pray for God to guide and direct your steps if you are interested in launching a GMA program at your church.
