Who Makes Up a Board of BMAT Trustees?

“Can I have your lunch?” The setting was a time when our Lord had spoken to a large crowd. The owner of the lunch was a little boy, and the lunch was five loaves and two fish. But when they were made available to the Master, amazing things happened. One of the messages that we glean from the story is the importance of giving what we possess to the Lord.
 
In the wisdom of the early founders of the BMA of Texas, it was decided that the departments would be governed by a board of trustees. A board is made up of men and ladies who give counsel and encouragement to the individual department directors. The process chooses people from the churches who possess expertise that could be of benefit to a particular department. To be chosen for a position on a board should be considered an honor.

When the association elected me to head up one of the departments, I was reminded of a statement that I had heard from another successful organization, “What business are we in, how is business?” My department was in the business/ministry of giving hope and direction to abused and neglected children. In filling positions on the board, I sought pastors who personally led their churches to support the ministry. The churches are the lifeblood of the department.
 
When our Lord chose His disciples, He chose men from various backgrounds. Since we were dealing with children, there were schoolteachers and spouses of schoolteachers on the board. There was a lady who served as a school nurse, a former superintendent of schools. Because there was business that claimed our attention, a CPA served on the board, a county clerk, who also held a realtor license. A Christian counselor, a youth director, a car dealer, a lady who had a ministry to physically challenged youth and adults, a retired insurance agent. In years past a banker and building contractor had served on the board. All of these, due to their professions, possessed knowledge that was beneficial to the ministry.
 
What gifts has God entrusted to you? If you have a vision for souls and church planting, then God could use you in working with state missions. If you have a background in education, you should consider working with Jacksonville College. If your background is finances, you could be a benefit to the Loan Association or any of the other departments.
