From Time to Time

President, TBHC
For 115 years, this ministry has been shaped by faith, faithfulness and moments both ordinary and extraordinary. In the months ahead, I’ll be sharing stories from across that journey in a series called From Time to Time—stories that may surprise you. We may not be the ministry you think we are, we are so much more.

From a Home for Children to a Headquarters of Hope
If these walls could talk, they would tell stories of children who once called this campus home. Today, they tell a new story, one of equipping families to provide the love and stability every child deserves.

For all our years, this mission has stood for glorifying God by caring for children. Then: our campus served as a residential home, a safe place where children lived, learned and grew. Now: the same campus is our headquarters, a hub that equips families across Texas to open their homes through foster care and adoption, so more children can thrive in family settings.

Our new sign captures this transformation. It’s more than a marker; it’s a promise of hope and a public witness to the work happening here every day. Thank you, WMA of Texas, whose generosity made this beautiful sign possible. Their gift honors the past and points to the future; reminding every visitor that hope lives here and that our mission is advancing.

This Matters for children
Research increasingly recognizes that children heal best in families, with consistent caregivers, individualized attention and the stability of everyday home life. Large reviews note that institutional or group settings, even when caring, can’t consistently match the developmental benefits of family-based care; moving children into foster, kinship or adoptive families is associated with better identity formation, educational progress and social-emotional outcomes when supported well. Then & Now, what changed
Then: Residential care reflected the best available approach in its time, offering safety, shelter and structure for children who needed it. Now: Today, instead of caring for kids in big group settings, we focus on helping them find families. We walk alongside foster and adoptive parents, preparing them, supporting them and making sure kids have the chance to grow up in a home, not an institution. We’ve learned over the years that children heal best in families, where they can experience love, stability and belonging. That’s why this shift matters so much.[aecf.org]

As we continue to celebrate 115 years, we honor the legacy of those who built and sustained a home for children then, and we invite you to join us in the now, helping more children find hope, healing and belonging in families.
“The Lord has done great things for us, And we are glad.”  (Psalm 126:3)

Pray for families stepping into foster care, adoption and for children awaiting a safe, loving home. Next month I will share another installment in my From Time to Time series, running through September to celebrate 115 years of ministry. We may not be the ministry you think we are, we are so much more!
