More Bang for Your Buck

Many thanks to everyone who supports WMA projects. WMA seems to be comprised of donors.  Locally, the ladies support many projects and are busy helping several different groups. The district supports projects monetarily and through in-kind donations, as many others do. The current Texas project is the Texas Baptist Home for Children and the National project is Just the Crumbs, but, when you give to the state and/or national project, your money actually helps in lots of ways.

Consider the Texas WMA project.  In a recent vote, all donations for the project are to be divided three ways: 90 percent to the project, 5 percent to the general fund, and 5 percent to the youth fund. Money in the general fund helps cover yearly expenses, including but not exclusive of our state meeting. A person may donate specifically to the general fund, but it will benefit from project offerings also. Any funds left over from the annual retreat are also placed in the general fund.

The youth fund is used for Sunbeams and GMAs. We cover expenses for their meetings that they may not have. Because the youth fund contains a pretty substantial amount, a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for any GMA going on a VSM trip was established. Several GMAs have taken advantage of this scholarship. In July, the National GMA officers took a mission trip to Mexico. Three of the officers are from Texas and $2,000 from the youth fund helped with travel expenses and supplies for VBS in Mexico.  This was a great way to use the funds that many have so faithfully contributed.

At the national level, 80 percent goes to the project, 10 percent to general fund, and 10 percent to youth fund. These funds serve the same purposes as their counterparts at the state level. In recent years, there has been a surplus in the general fund at the national level and efforts have been made to disperse that money to some worthy causes.  At the BMAA meeting in April, the ladies were able to donate funds to Gavin Roberts’ church plant in Utah, BMATS and their work in Africa, I AM Woman, Missionary Care, Moral Action, Water for Christ, and the GMA trip to Mexico.

As you can see, a donation to the project benefits many different areas of the WMA and BMA.  We trust that God will use these funds for His glory. All you have to do is mark your donation project, and it is automatically divided among these accounts. If you wish to give the entire amount to the named project you can certainly do that, but as you can see, the general fund and youth fund serve great projects too and are certainly worthy of our gifts.

There are many worthy places to send your support and we thank you so much for supporting the WMA projects. Below are the addresses to send donations.

The Statement of Principles Updating Committee has been working to make the Texas WMA Manual and Guidebook an excellent resource for all local and district ladies’ groups as well as the state WMA. The document, with proposed changes, is available on the website, www.texaswma.com. We will be voting on changes made to this document during the WMA meeting on November 18. The committee would welcome your input on this document. To provide feedback, simply go to the “Officers” tab and fill out the form at the bottom of that page. Your involvement is appreciated.

WMA Project (TBHC) Related Prayer Request
Pray for wisdom, unity, and clarity for our upcoming board meeting as members make decisions; for our time at the association meetings, that we (TBHC) reflect Christ and build meaningful connections; for staff as we get ready to welcome the BMA of Texas to our campus—that it is a time of shared purpose and encouragement; and praise the Lord for the WMA’s efforts to create a campus that is visible and is a light and a beacon of hope.
