2025: A NEW CHAPTER
This year marks 115 years of ministry for Texas Baptist Home for Children, a legacy of faithfulness, compassion and unwavering commitment to children and families in need. For over a century, God has used this ministry to bring healing, stability and hope to thousands of lives. We are deeply grateful for all of you who have made that possible.

Rooted in Legacy—Our story began with a collaboration among churches that would become known as the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. These churches, each sovereign in their governance and spiritual identity, united with a shared burden: to share the gospel. That burden led to the establishment of a ministry devoted to caring for children.

Their hope was not merely organizational; it was deeply spiritual. After years of prayerful consideration and searching, they found a home in 1908. By 1910, children were being lovingly cared for. This was not just a building project; it was a movement of compassion, driven by churches who sought the Lord and responded to His call.

Each church retained its independence yet chose to contribute to a unified vision. Their unity was not imposed, it was inspired. They sent resources, appointed representatives to serve on the board and instilled a value that remains our guiding purpose today: “To Glorify God by Caring for Children.”

Their commitment to the gospel was evident in every decision. They selected leaders to carry the torch forward, planted Farley Street Baptist Church (now Pathway) to ensure pastoral care for the children and staff, and kept evangelism at the heart of their efforts. Their vision was clear: that every child would encounter a loving Savior and have the opportunity to receive eternal life.

Though the methods and structures may look different today, the opportunity they hoped to create remains unchanged. We continue to walk in the legacy they left behind, one of faith, unity and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.

A New Name—--As we reflect on this incredible milestone, we also look ahead with great anticipation. After much prayer, thoughtful consideration and the full support of our leadership and board of trustees, we are embracing a new name that reflects both our heritage and our future.

Texas Baptist Hope for Children—Yes, it’s a small change, just one letter. But that one letter carries a world of meaning. It represents a renewed vision, a broader mission and a deeper commitment to the children and families we serve.

Why the Change?—As our ministry has grown across Texas and beyond, it became clear that our former name, while beloved, no longer fully captured the scope of our work or the opportunities God is placing before us. This change is not about leaving the past behind, it’s about building upon it.

Our new name honors our legacy while opening doors to new partnerships, new regions, and new ways to serve.

Same Mission—Our purpose remains unchanged: to glorify God by caring for children. We do this by offering stability, helping children discover their God-given worth, and walking with them toward true healing in Christ. This mission is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s only possible because of your faithful support.

Looking Ahead—We believe God is calling us to even greater impact:
  • Doubling our adoptions from 500 to 1,000
  • Expanding foster care into every region of Texas
  • Growing our international ministry to reach more children around the world
  • These are bold goals, but with your continued partnership they are within reach.

Celebrating 125 Years of the BMA of Texas—The same association that gave birth to this ministry continues to be a vital part of our story. Your faith, vision, and commitment to the gospel have shaped generations and their legacy lives on in every child we serve.

As we look to the future, we recognize that the strength of our ministry is deeply rooted in the strength of our churches. The future of Texas Baptist Hope for Children is inseparable from the future of the churches that make up the BMA. Together, we are not just preserving a legacy—we are propelling it forward.

A Call to Hope—As we step into this new season, we do so not as a break from the past, but as a continuation of a sacred calling first embraced in 1900. The churches that came together to form this ministry did so with a clear purpose: to glorify God by caring for children and to ensure that every child had the opportunity to encounter the love of Christ.

Today, 115 years later, that same heartbeat still drives us. The methods have evolved, the reach has expanded and the name has changed; but the mission remains unchanged. We are still answering the same call, still fueled by the same hope and still walking in the footsteps of those faithful churches who believed that caring for children was a holy act of worship.
Their legacy is not just remembered, it is lived out every day in the lives of children who find safety, healing and hope through this ministry.

I am reminded of the apostle Paul’s words in Romans 15:13. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NKJV)

We invite you to continue walking with us, praying with us and dreaming with us.

This name change is more than a rebrand. It is a declaration of who we are and what we believe: that every child deserves hope.

Thank you for giving kids a chance for HOPE.
